Getting There

How to get to The Umbrella Cover Museum -

Summer 2023 hours are Daily - 10-1 and 2-5, through Labor Day. By appointment after that until September 18th. Closed for the season after that. Weekends are definitely busier than weekdays.

You have to take the ferry from Portland, Maine to get to Peaks Island - it is about a 20 minute ride. Here is the website: www.Cascobaylines.com

It is also very busy for parking in Portland, so if you are driving, be sure to look at the parking map on the website for the ferry. The garage right at the ferry is usually full, and can be very expensive. Bringing a car over costs $40 - $85 depending on the day. I do not recommend that.

Here's the map of where to park in Portland.

The Umbrella Cover Museum is a five minute walk up a hill from the ferry on Peaks. Turn left at the first street (Island Ave.) and we are the 3rd building on the left.

For other things to do:

Once on the island, I recommend taking the Peaks Island History Golf Cart Tour. The phone number to make a reservation is 207-766-5514. It takes about 75 minutes. Here is the website for that. https://www.peaksislandtours.com/golf-cart-tour

Other than that, there are several restaurants or food trucks on the island to have lunch or dinner, some of them take reservations. You can walk around the island, tour the Fifth Maine Regiment History Building (open Friday - Sun. in June, more in July and August) https://www.fifthmainemuseum.org

There is not a lot to “DO” on the island, it’s a place for relaxing and seeing the ocean. If you want to rent a golf cart and drive yourselves around, reserve that in advance at 207-747-8309 or on the website http://peaksislandcarts.com

The Peaks Island Taxi meets each ferry until 6 p.m. It goes anywhere for $5.00. If they are available, they will also give you a shorter island tour.
